Artist bio YOYO NASTY
The visual world of Yoyo Nasty explores surreal scenes of nature. Cheeky tigers sticking out their tongues, playful mermaids and free-spirited cowboys meet in colourful landscapes. The anthropomorphism of animals and mystical characters is a signature theme within her practice. Full of personality and confidence, these dancing figures express love, freedom and feminine power. The use of fashion elements such as the cowboy hat, high heels and pink underwear presents an exploration of identity through relatable, personal characters. Yoyo Nasty’s mixed- media paintings convey the rhythmic power and movement of nature. By capturing botanics on the boarder between dream and reality, the traditional subject matter mutates into something slightly upbeat and chromatic. Her bright, joyful palette brings an energy and vivaciousness to the works, as well as challenges preconceived notions of combining colours.
